Carole L. Corn

GLASGOW — Carole L. Corn, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at her residence.

A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Esther Grose Roberts. She was married for 59 years to the Rev. Jack T. Corn, who preceded her in death in July of this year. As a pastor’s wife, Mrs. Corn served beside her husband throughout the Defiance District in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. After retiring to Sebring, Fla., for 11 years, the Corns moved to Glasgow to be near their family. Her joy was found in serving the Lord as a minister’s wife and serving her family that was, to her, most dear.

Survivors include two children, Diann Roberts (Steve) and Jack Thomas Corn Jr. (Sharon); five grandchildren: Rebekah Roberts, Brandon Corn (Amanda), Jack T. Corn III, David Roberts and Ashley Corn. She delighted in her two great-grandchildren, Zandon and Hannah Corn and had several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Faith United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Gideon’s International or Faith United Methodist Church.

Richard Harbeson Lane

CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Richard Harbeson Lane, 68, formerly of Cynthiana, passed away on Oct. 4, 2009, at his summer home in Cullowhee, N.C.

Born in cincinnati, Ohio, on March 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Richard Keene and Elizabeth Harbeson Lane. He was a member of St. Hillary’s Episcopal Church in Fort Myers, Florida.

He graduated from Cynthiana High School and Transylvania University. He served in the U.S. Army 100th Armored Division and participated in the mobilization during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He was a long time resident of Mount Sterling, proprietor of Trader’s Liquor Store and later founded Kentucky Tobacco Services which became a thriving business over the last 25 years.

He is survived by two sisters: Judith Lane Lindsay (Francis), Leesburg, Va., and Elizabeth Lane May (Gary), Glasgow. He is also survived by his three loving children: Elizabeth Lane Klump (Michael), Atlanta, Ga., Richard Harbeson Lane Jr. (Stacy), Lexington, and Benjamin Bradford Lane (Patricia), Fort Myers, Fla. He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren, who deemed him “the best Papaw in the world.” They are Michael Parker Klump, Andrew Harbeson Klump, Richard Keene Lane II, Virginia Thornton Lane, Benjamin Carter Lane and Elizabeth Grace Lane. His dog, Zack, who was a faithful and constant companion, further survives him.

A memorial service will be held this Friday at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral home in Cynthiana. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with the memorial service commencing at 7 p.m. He will be interred at Battle Grove Cemetery. Burial services will be private.
