John Alford Jr.
RUSSELLVILLE — John Alford Jr., 83, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at his residence.
He was the son of the late John Alford Sr. and Martha Hightower Alford and the husband of the late Oma Lee Lay Alford.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Valley View Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

David Shawn Carver
AUSTIN — David Shawn Carver, 40, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
He was the son of the late Harold Franklin Carver and Shirley Faye Hogue Carver of Austin, who survives. Other survivors include his wife, Donna Sue Carver, Austin.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Goad Funeral Home, Scottsville, with burial in Pleasant Home Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

Evie Inez Copass
EAST PEORIA, Ill. —Evie Inez Copass, 87, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law with whom she lived with for 17 years in East Peoria, Ill., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Tompkinsville, on Sept. 3, 1921, the daughter of John H. and Dora B. (Stuart) Birdwell. She married Joshua Ira Copass on April 23, 1938, in Tompkinsville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1991. Also preceding her in death are four sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by and lovingly remembered by her two sons: Carl R. (Sally) Copass of Glasgow, and Harold E. (Beverly) Copass of Milford, Ill.; one daughter: Pamela K. (Robert) Siler of East Peoria, Ill.; three granddaughters: Jody Davis of Glasgow, Laura (Tom) Pampel of Milford, Ill., and Deanna Hunt of Gibson City, Ill.; six great-grandchildren: Melinda Davis of Glasgow, Kattie Killion, Joshua Killion, and Jacob Atchie of Milford, Ill., Alex Hunt, Matthew Hunt of Gibson City, Ill.; one step great-grandchild: Rachael Pampel of Milford, Ill.; one sister: Gertrude Tooley of Tompkinsville; along with many other relatives and friends.
She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years. She loved to cook, sew and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member of Bay View Baptist Church of Washington, Ill.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home, Germantown Hills Chapel. Visitation will also be Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009, at Strode Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Sid Yokely Cemetery in Tompkinsville. Brother Chris Vinson will officiate.

Lola Ford
RANDOLPH — Lola Ford, 61, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville.
She was the daughter of the late Alford Odell Sartin and Cora Lee Harriford Satin. She was a retired medical assistant at the Kentucky State Mental Hospital in Glasgow.
Survivors include her husband, Kelvin Ford; and her father-in-law, Marshall (Mont) Ford of Greensburg.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Randolph Baptist Church in Metcalfe County with interment in the Mount Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Green County. Visitation will be 2 until 9 p.m. Friday, after 7 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

John O. Gardner
MUNFORDVILLE — John O. Gardner, 69, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Caverna Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Hurley and Ada Smith Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, Dale.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 3, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Friday until time of services at the funeral home.

Chloe Smith Guffey
TOMPKINSVILLE — Chloe Smith Guffey, 83, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her home.
She was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Clay County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Samuel Vanuel Smith and Ollie Mae Guffey Smith. She was an employee in the kitchen at Monroe County Medical Center for 18 years and a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Cornell and Kathleen Guffey and Stevie and Sandra Guffey, all of Tompkinsville; grandchildren: Kim Guffey, Christen Page and Eric Guffey; great-grandchildren: Joshua Emmert, Matthew Emmert and Erin Emmert; two brothers: Chester Smith of Beech Grove, Ind., and Mitchell Smith of Tompkinsville; and one sister: Avis Goad of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Estus Lee Guffey, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1944, in Clay County, Tenn.; one granddaughter: Chasity Guffey; four brothers: Lester Smith, Estus Smith, Joe Smith and Robert Smith; and five sisters: Zelma Bowmer, Alisa Smith, Hattie Rich, Annie Smith and Gladys Smith.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Beech Grove Baptist Church with Brother Timmy Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2009, after 11 a.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville.

Dora Page Henry
LOUISVILLE — Dora Page Henry, 81, formerly of Summer Shade, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.
She was a retired bank employee and a daughter of the late Grady and Evie Davis Page.
She is survived by one sister, Edalene Hope of Summer Shade; nieces and nephews, Bonnie (Henry) Froggett, Richard (Kaye) Hope, both of Summer Shade, and Mark Page of Glasgow.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Henry; five sisters, Velma Nichols, Thelma Martin, Holda Billingsley, Orene Garmon and Louise Page; and three brothers, Berford, Finis and Ira Page.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with interment in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 3, from 10 a.m. until funeral time.
Memorials may be made to the Summer Shade Fire Department or the Summer Shade Cemetery.

O.D. Kirk
TOMPKINSVILLE — O.D. Kirk, 85, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Monroe Health and Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.
She was the daughter of the late Willie Frank Kirk and Jane Graves Kirk.
Survivors include two daughters: Barbara Graves and Anna Johnson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial in Mount Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

Fred Overturf
COLUMBIA, Tenn. — Fred Overturf, 66, a resident of the Kedron Community, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his residence on Kedron Road.
A memorial service for Mr. Overturf will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia,, Tenn., with the Rev. Carroll Overturf officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Mr. Overturf was born in Steele, Mo., to the late Everet Elsworth (Nigg) Overturf and the late Mary Mable Mitchie Overturf.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, Maxine King. He was retired from General Motors, Corvette Plant in Bowling Green. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching wrestling.
In addition to his companion, he is survived by his daughter: Carlene Jeanette (fiance’, Earnest Frye Jr.) Overturf of Osceola, Ark.; a son: Randall Scott Overturf of Boiling Springs, S.C.; a granddaughter: Sara Michelle Overturf and her mother: Cindy Overturf of Boiling Springs, S.C.; four sisters: Martha Lavina “Sissy” Flood of Steele, Mo., Marie Elizabeth (Howard) Dennis of Denton, Mo., Agnes Lucille (Chester) Richardson of Deering, Mo., and Stellveta (Chester) Bradford of Steele, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Christine Overturf of Denton, Mo.; a brother: Carroll Overturf of Pottsville, Ark.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah Overturf, Mary Frances Overturf and Bonita Overturf; three brothers, Walter (Bigboy) Lee Overturf, William Everett (Buddy) Overturf, and Henry (Boob) Overturf.

GLASGOW — Robbie E. Wood, 52, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her residence.
She was the daughter of Virgie Marie Likens Slayton and the late Bill Slayton.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband: Johnny Wood; six children: Jennifer Austin (Chris), Jamie Maynard (Jason), Brian Bragg (Cassie), Tony Wood (Tabitha), Eddie P. Wood (Tammy) and Kristy Smith (Kenneth); two brothers: Ricky Slayton (Eunice) and Timmy Slayton; three sisters: Janice Shore, Donna Slayton and Teresa Eden; and 13 grandchildren.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by one sister: Darlene York; and one brother: Roger Slayton.
