HARDYVILLE — Dale Stuart Mobley, 50, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at his home.

Dale was born in Elizabethtown on Sept. 6, 1958. He spent his summers in Hardyville with his grandparents, Walter and Francis McKinney, helping on the farm. While attending East Hardin High School in Glendale, he worked at Hardin Brothers Oil Company Service Center as a tow truck driver and manager. Leaving high school at the age of 16, he was employed by Crucible Magnetics in Elizabethtown as a machine operator. In 1977 his parents moved to the Hart, Barren County area and at the age of 19 he joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Coral Sea CV-43. As a Petty Officers Electricians Mate he served during the Carter administration. His ship twice spent 268 days circling the Indian Ocean during the Iranian Crisis. Dale was initiated into the King Neptunes World by going through the Shellback Initiation twice. The crew, twice, earned Meritorious Unit Commendations, an Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Sea Service Commendation for remaining at sea in excess of 90 days continuously on more than one occasion. During his enlistment, he crashed landed on Oman in a 707 military transport while returning to the ship from escorting a prisoner to Treasure Island. They were given until dark to leave the country or be taken prisoner. They were flown by helicopter to Deigo Garcia where they boarded a military mail carrier. Upon return they crashed a second time on the flight deck of the USS Coral Sea. He separated from service with an honorable discharge in Alameda, Calif., in 1984 and remained in the California Bay area to work. He was a member of the IBEW Local 6 out of San Francisco working at major naval shipyards in the bay area as an electrician, electronics technician installing radar tracking systems, radio systems and missle launching systems on military vessels which required a top secret level FBI security clearance and U.S. Department of Defense clearance. He was employed at Sumitomo in Edmonton for 4 years before leaving to farm full time. They bought a farm in 2003 and acquired the family farm in Barren County in 2007.
