Jewell Hurt Atkinson

GLASGOW — Jewell Hurt Atkinson, 81, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at the NHC Health Care Facility in Glasgow.

She was born in Metcalfe County, the daughter of the late Will and Pearl Ferrell Hurt. Her husband was the late William Wendell Atkinson. Mrs. Atkinson had owned and operated Atkinson’s Antiques and had also been employed by Hidden Attic Antiques and Handmacher Mfg. Co. in Glasgow. 

She is survived by her stepdaughter-in-law, Marjorie Atkinson of Bowling Green; her step granddaughter, Lisa Lancaster and husband Jeff of Bowling Green; a step great-granddaughter, Bailee Lancaster; and a sister-in-law, Marie Ferrell of Hendersonville, Tenn.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Jessie Margaret Bradshaw

GLASGOW — Jessie Margaret Bradshaw, 89, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her residence.

Born in Circle, Mont., she was the daughter of the late Jessie Roscoe and Vallie Taylor Goode and the wife of the late Tevie John Bradshaw. Mrs. Bradshaw was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and quilting and was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ.

Survivors include six daughters: Barbara Stephens (Kenneth) of Glasgow, Sandy Elmore (Bill) of Louisville, Cathy Gilles (Mike) of South Carrollton, Sherry Wood (Jerry), Cherry Peden (James) and Dana Gooden (Tim), all of Glasgow; one son: J.R. Bradshaw (Faye) of Glasgow; 20 grandchildren: Danny Stephens, Kevin Bradshaw, Dennis Stephens, Todd Fran-klin, John Elmore, Sean Elmore, Greg Franklin, Shad Wood, Roscoe Peden, Tevie Gooden, Jess Gooden, Terri Patterson, Marsha Piper, Beverly Harbison, Tina Hall, Bobbi Edwards, Michelle Clemmons, Jennifer Hammer, Kristy Farah and Theresa Gooden; 48 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and a niece, Carol Walden of Glasgow.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, T.J. Bradshaw; two grandchildren, Ronnie Stephens and Jama Peden Young; and a sister, Elsie Taylor.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday May 9, 2008, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Julia Walker Collins

TOMPKINSVILLE — Julia Walker Collins died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Monroe County Health & Rehab.

She was the daughter of the late Luther and Emma Bushong Walker and wife of the late Johnnie Collins.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Thursday.



Lester Hawkins

CENTER POINT — Lester Hawkins, 81, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.

He was the son of the late Lawrence and Lillie Rigdon Hawkins, was a retired farmer and carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Cedar Point Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Logsdon Hawkins; two sons: Steve Hawkins and wife Theresa of Munfordville, and Perry Hawkins and wife Debra of Munfordville; two daughters: Patricia Rudovsky and husband Stephen of Munfordville, and Angela James and husband Roy of Glasgow; one sister: Naomi Logsdon of Munfordville; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in the Center Point Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation is in progress today until 9 p.m. and Thursday after 9 a.m. until time for services at the funeral home.

Russell Hellard

LUCAS — Russell Hellard, 89, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Glasgow.

A native of Jackson County, Ky., he was the son of the late Bradley and Betty Angel Hellard. He was a retired maintenance worker for International Tool Company in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II and was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include his wife, Burnis; three children, Linda Marie Salyer (Billy) of Miamisburg, Ohio, Phillip Wayne Hellard (Linda) of Gallatin, Tenn., and Brenda Louise Helton (Joseph) of Hillsboro, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Russell Hisle, Randall Salyer, Ronald Salyer, Kelly Jackson, Rebecca Russell, Wendy Pedigo, Bobbie Jo Murrell and Charles Helton; one sister, Myrtle Bond of Miamisburg; very special friend, caretaker and former daughter-in-law, Karen Hellard of Glasgow; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Marvin Hellard.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
