BOWLING GREEN — James Harold DeWeese, 71, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his residence. He was the son of the late James Roscoe DeWeese and Melissa Jane Reece Jones. Survivors include his wife, Zelma Dean Keown DeWeese of Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Faith United Baptist Church with burial in Green Meadows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Presley Monroe Jr. CAVE CITY — Presley Monroe Jr., 77, died at his home on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. The Barren County native was the son of the late Presley Monroe Sr. and Mossie Smith Monroe. On Nov. 26, 1953, he married Joyce Grimes, who survives him. Jr. was a Kentucky Colonel and a lifelong farmer. He was actively involved in area farmers’ markets for the past 20 years. In 1955, he and his brother, J Y Monroe, opened Monroe Brothers Sweet Feed Mill in Cave City, which is still in operation today. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Jennifer (Dan) Kinsner and Vinetta (Stuart) Daniell, Bowling Green; two sons: Coy Monroe and Sammy (Vicki) Monroe, Cave City; five grandchildren: Sammye Jo (Dustin) Singer, Louisville, Nathan Monroe, Dana Monroe, Cave City, Rachel and Alex Daniell, Bowling Green; a great-grandson, Matthew Steven Singer, Louisville; two brothers: Larry (Patricia) Monroe, Cave City, William (Joann) Monroe, Kokomo, Ind.; five sisters-in-law: Carolyn Monroe and Nancy Monroe, Cave City, Linda (Jackie) Young, Louvenia (Paul) Hendrick, Bowling Green, and Donna (Charles) Clines, Cave City. Several nephews and nieces, including his caregivers, Sharon and Dixie Clines, also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Gibson and Betty Wilkins; two brothers: JY Monroe and Bobby Monroe; two granddaughters: Samantha and Amy Monroe; and a very special grandson Matt Monroe. Funeral services, with the Rev. Roger Worley officiating, will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Penns Chapel Church of Christ, Bowling Green, with burial in Penns Chapel Cemetery. Visitation at the Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, will be today (Thursday) from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. when the body will be moved to the church for visitation after noon until time of services.
