Cynthia Bartlett

TOMPKINSVILLE — Cynthia Bartlett died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of Bernard and JoAnn Pickerell of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, with burial in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.



Ruby Bentley

MUNFORDVILLE — Ruby Bentley, 84, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of the Sego Funeral Home.



Thelma Elizabeth ‘Granny’ Gray

LOUISVILLE — Thelma Elizabeth “Granny” Gray, 89, died Saturday, April 19, at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.

She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Willie Elmer Gray and Annie Elizabeth Waller Gray. Mrs. Gray was a retired employee of the Enro Shirt Company and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her family, who adored her and will miss her.

She is survived by one son: Carlos Gray (Shirley) of Louisville; two granddaughters: Donna Reynolds (Bob) and Tricia Gray; three great-grandchildren: Brandon, Jessica and Grace Reynolds; one nephew: Marshall Gray (Lucy); and a niece: Nelda Bowles-Steen.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, Glasgow, with burial in the Bon Ayr Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the O.D. White & Sons Funeral Home in Louisville and on Wednesday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Glasgow.

Mildred F. ‘Poodle’ Houchens

GLASGOW — Mildred F. “Poodle” Houchens, 79, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the NHC Health Care Facility in Glasgow.

She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late E.L. and Tishie Proffitt Hunt. Mrs. Houchens was a homemaker and a member of the Glasgow Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son: Jimmy Houchens (Sheila) of Glasgow; one daughter: Judy Garrison of Glasgow; two grandchildren: Melissa Hale (Keith) and Ashlea Houchens; two great-grandchildren: Kaylyn and Khloe Hale; two brothers: James Hunt of New Albany, Ind., and Bill Hunt of Oakland; three sisters: Lou Newsome and Mary Nell York, both of Glasgow, and Shirley Smalling of Bowling Green.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Tom Houchens; a son-in-law, Ricky Garrison; two brothers, Leon and Harold B. Hunt; and a sister, Cleon Houchens.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Wilda Bonita Moore

SMITHS GROVE — Wilda Bonita Moore, 53, died April 15, 2008, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

She was the daughter of the late James Henry Howard and Willodean Carter Howard and wife of Lonnie Moore.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel, with burial in the Henderson Cemetery in Barren County.



James Banister ‘Jimmy’ Russell

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — James Banister “Jimmy” Russell, 93, formerly of Glasgow, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, in Franklin, Tenn.

Mr. Russell, the oldest of eight children, was born to Claude and Hester Russell on Feb. 15, 1915, in Uniontown, Ky. He served in World War II, participating in four invasions and receiving the Purple Heart. He lived in Glasgow from 1937-99 when he and his wife, Eleanor, relocated to Franklin, Tenn. While living in Glasgow, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eleanor Miller Russell, Franklin, Tenn.; a son, Thomas B. Russell (Phyllis), Paducah; daughter, Emily Alice Harper (Hugh), Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren: Thomas Baird Russell, Nashville, Tenn., John Banister Russell (Katherine), Memphis, Tenn., Russell Bratton Williams, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Sarah Frances Williams, Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Louellyn Russell SCN, Louisville; and cousin, Sarah Smith (Donnie), Louisville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Glasgow with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

GLASGOW — Thomas J. Stahl 47 of Glasgow died Friday, April 18, 2008, in La Grange, after an illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 7 until 9 p.m.
