Jessie ‘Hoppie-Paul Jr.’ Harper Jr.

CAVE CITY — Jessie “Hoppie-Paul Jr.” Harper Jr., 70, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Barren County, he was the son of the late Jessie Hardis Harper and Cora Nell Harper Sexton. Mr. Harper was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kidwell Harper of Cave City; three sons: Tony Harper (Judy) of Cave City, Marty Harper (Betty) of Indiana and Noel Elam “Tooter” Harper (Bonnie) of Indiana; three daughters: Jeanette Harper (Gary Thompson) of Park City, Jeanetta Harper of Indiana and Donna Chase of Louisville; a sister: Wanda Hudgins of Glasgow; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the Shirley-Baldock Cemetery.

Edward Horton

KESSINGER — Edward Horton, 75, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in Kessinger. He was the son of the late Floyd and Mary Alice Mathis Horton.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in the Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Earl W. Maners

FRANKLIN, Ind. — Earl W. Maners, 88, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Indiana Masonic Home.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1919, in Elletsville, Ind. His father was Ernest Nicholas Maners and his mother was Mary Jane (Walls) Stratton. He married Ruth E. Greenlee on Dec. 18, 1949. She preceded him in passing on Oct. 25, 2003.

Survivors include sons: Tony Maners (Patti) of Danville, Ind., Ronny Manners of Glasgow, Marvin Maners (Diana) of Clayton, Ind.; a daughter: Barbara Fillesky (Mark) of Plainfield, Ind.; sisters: Lucille Bainter, Ruth Long; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was precededd in passing by four brothers and a sister.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Maners worked for the Farm Bureau Co-op. He also worked at Home Lumber in Danville, Ind. He was a member of the Teamsters 135.

The Rev. Charles Stanley will conduct a service on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Indiana Masonic Home Kresge Chapel. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008, also at Kresge Chapel. Burial will be at Amo Cemetery in Amo, Ind.

Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.

Frances Irene Pitcock

Indianapolis, Ind. — Frances Irene Pitcock, 76, died on Sunday, April 13, 2008.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1931, in Glasgow, to the late James and Sylvia Pearl (Coulter) Tyree. She was a dietary aide for Community Hospital East and retired in 1991.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Robert Pierce; grandchildren, Rebecca and Taylor; sisters, Sue Wood and Ruth Matthews; brother, Riley Tyree, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Flanner & Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center. Burial will take place in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Ansel Ray Shirley

TOMPKINSVILLE — Ansel Ray Shirley, 72, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Monroe County Medical Center, Tompkinsville.

He is the son of Hubert Shirley and Jenny Susan Miller Shirley of Tompkinsville, who survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Dyer Shirley.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial in White Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CANMER — Evelyn Elizabeth Buckner, 88, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Canmer with burial in the Pearl Webb Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 until 9 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services at the Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

HORSE CAVE — Paul Chapmon, 88, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Caverna Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Winn Funeral Home Chapel, Horse Cave, with burial in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery with full military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow.

BOWLING GREEN — Mary Katherine Johnson, 73, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in the Little Muddy Cemetery in Butler County. Visitation continues until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
