Clyde M. Alley

SUMMER SHADE — Clyde M. Alley died Monday, March 17, 2008, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow. He was the son of the late Clyde and Ore Alley.

There will be no service or visitation. Cremation was chosen.



Naomi Curtis

GLASGOW — Naomi Curtis, 89, of Glasgow, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Rosewood Health Care Center in Bowling Green. She was the daughter of the late George Goad and Alice Emberton Goad.

She is survived by one son: Gary Proffitt of Bowling Green; two grandsons; one brother: Warren and his wife Cleva of Glasgow; several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: Basil Proffitt and Rev. G. N. Curtis; five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Midlothian Cemetery in Midlothian, Texas.



Clifton Runyon

GLASGOW — Clifton Runyon, 83, of Glasgow, died Saturday March 22, 2008, at the NHC Health Care Facility in Glasgow. His arrangements are incomplete but are under the direction of the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Brenda F. Thomas

GREENSBURG — Brenda F. White Thomas, 58, of Greensburg died Friday, March 21, 2008 in Jamestown, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late James Alfred White and Gladys Nunn White.

She is survived by her daughter: Tonya Pedigo and her son-in-law Shawn Pedigo of Bowling Green; her loving grandchildren: Asia Woodard, Aaliyah Woodward and Whitney Rahn Cianci; her loved one, Dick Thomas of Glasgow; her niece Rose Mary Morgan of Glasgow; five brothers: Nub White of Illinois, Gordon White of Illinois, Porter White of Louisville, Danny White of Hardyville and Chunk White of Hardyville; two sisters: Judy Blakeman of Greensburg and Marilyn Morgan of Hardyville; twenty two nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother Carlos White and two sisters Ida Lois White and Rose Morgan.

Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.



Col. James R. Weaver

CARY, N.C. — Col. James R. (Jim) Weaver, U.S. Marine Corps, retired, passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.

He was born May 16, 1923, in Glasgow, was raised at Roseville and educated at Roseville and Temple Hill High School. Upon his graduation in 1942, he joined the Marines, becoming a fighter pilot in three wars: World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. His honors include: Legion of Merit with “V” and two stars, Distinguished Flying Cross with one star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with two stars and numeral 10, Korean Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal with Purple Heart. During his military service, James also earned a Masters degree in engineering from the University of Maryland.

In recognition of Col. Weaver and M/Sgt. Bob Becker, the USS Intrepid Museum, now being renovated in the New York City harbor, will display a replica of the F3D Skynight fighter flown by them from the USS Intrepid during action in Korea in January 1953. Beside it also will be displayed a replica of the MiG15 which they shot down during support of a bombing run on Jan. 23, 1953. The F3D Skynight will be emblazoned with the names of Col. Weaver and Sgt. Becker as pilot and radar observer.

After retiring from the military, James settled in Cary, N.C., managed the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for several years, and then turned his attention to land development. James also received numerous civic awards, principally in the Rotary Club of Cary, in which he served two terms as president and had 29 years of perfect attendance.

His funeral and burial were on Feb. 19 at Apex, N.C.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Shaya Brower (Bryan); two grandsons, two stepchildren and six siblings: Agnes, Ruby, B.L., Jr., Frank, Doris and Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burford and Minnie (Williams) Weaver; his first wife, the former Jeanne Shirley of Tompkinsville; and a son, Mark Weaver.



MAMMOTH CAVE — Claud Carroll, 99, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Nolin United Baptist Church, with interment in the Nolin Cemetery in Mammoth Cave. Visitation is in progress at the church until time of services.



VINE GROVE — Frank Slaughter 73, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at North Hardin Health & Rehabilitation Center, in Radcliff. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Coffey & Chism Funeral Home, Vine Grove, with burial in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Crusade For Children, c/o Vine Grove Fire Department, P.O. Box 1100, Louisville, KY 40201.



LOUISVILLE — Annetta Lee Underwood, 95, formerly of Hart County, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Wesley Manor Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in the Gardner Family Cemetery at Cub Run. Visitation is in progress until time of services Sunday.
