BOWLING GREEN — Perry Edward Beckner, 79, of Louisville, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at his home. He was the son of the late Cleo Beckner and Enola Houchins Beckner. He was also the husband of the late Mary Evelyn “Mimi” Cooke Beckner. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Hardy and Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Burial will be in the Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. Idell Miller Carter TOMPKINSVILLE — Idell Miller Carter, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and formerly of Tompkinsville, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale. She was the daughter of the late Gee and Norma Miller, and the wife of the late Dr. Levonne Carter. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. today at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Russell Conley Jr. SHELBYVILLE — Russell Conley Jr., 88, formerly of Glasgow, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville, following a serious and lengthy illness. He was a native of Covington, and the son of the late Bessie Smith and Russell Conley Sr. He was the widower of Ada Jane Groves Conley. He attended Kentucky State College, now Kentucky State University, where he earned a B.A. in history, political science and sociology. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Tau Sigma Honor Society. He then joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the South Pacific during World War II and attained the rank of sergeant. Overseas duty was completed in New Guinea and the Philippines. Just before entering the military, he married Ada Jane Groves of Greensburg. After military service, he continued his education, receiving his M.A. degree in public school administration and school counseling and Rank I in school leadership at Western Kentucky University. He was certified as a high school teacher, principal, supervisor, pupil personnel director, superintendent and guidance counselor. He did graduate study work at Indiana University in sociology and at the University of Kentucky in economics. He also studied business machines at the Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, D.C.
