Edgar ‘Ed’ Lashley

BOWLING GREEN — Edgar “Ed” Lashley, 80, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Hopkins Nursing Facility in Woodburn. The Edmonson County native was a retired employee of Penn Central Railroad in Indianapolis, Ind., a former employee of Strassheim Company and Greenwood Mall, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Sycamore Liberty Baptist Church in Auburn and Goshen Lodge No. 503 F&AM. There will be an empty space where Ed once stood for his many friends and family. He was a very outgoing man who never met a stranger and loved everyone. He was a son of the late Lige Lashley and Belva Mae Key Lashley.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Odell Lashley, Bowling Green; one son: Jeff Bullock and longtime companion, Pam Pippin, Alvaton; one daughter: Kellie Creek and husband, Timothy, Smiths Grove; one stepdaughter: Gayle Frogge, Bowling Green; five brothers: Melba Lashley and wife, Barbara, Bowling Green, Charles Lashley and wife, Mary, James Gilbert Lashley and wife, Dean, and Jack Lashley, all of Louisville, Don Lashley and wife, Patsy, Franklin, Ky.; one sister: Janice Miller and husband, Robert, Bowling Green; six grandsons: Jake Creek, Michael Bullock, Matthew Bullock, Brian Frogge, Eddie Frogge and Bradley Frogge; the one and only granddaughter: Erika Jo Creek; one great-grandson: Brian Lee Frogge Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Walter Lashley, Danny Lashley and Howard Lashley; and two sisters: Catherine Thompson and Velma Lashley.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Goad Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Rev. James Britt officiating, and burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20. Goshen Lodge No. 503 F&AM conducted Masonic rites at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary K. Lewis

GLASGOW — Mary K. Lewis, 81, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Pearl Emmitt Byrd and was the wife of the late Bernice L. Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis was a member of the South Side Baptist Church, a 56-year-member of Austin Homemakers, the Red Hat Society and the Ladies Auxiliary at T.J. Samson Hospital. She was also active in league bowling and was a former employee of the Farmers Livestock Market for 30 years and retired from Handmacher. She was a member of the Barren River Writers Circle and authored a book entitled “What Hatched at the Byrd’s.”

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Furlong, Betty L. Denton (Steve) and Judy McLaughlin; seven grandchildren: Bobby, Jeff, Joe David and Todd Furlong, Stephanie and Holli Hanson and Tammy Roberts; 13 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Byrd (Doris); three sisters, Stella Matthews, Virginia Green and Mildred Smith (Stokley); and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Buster and Joe Byrd; three sisters, Captiola, Pricey and Maydelle; and two granddaughters, Marcie and Debbie Furlong.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.
