He was an experienced Merchant Seaman, having delivered supplies in the Vietnam War. He was most known in Cumberland, Metcalfe, Adair, Barren and Warren counties as an experienced roofer and builder. He helped build one of the largest tobacco barns in Cumberland County. Fishing, gardening, reading and playing cards were his most loved activities. He was a best friend to many and a friend to anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Kathleen Shepard Simpson of Tampa, Fla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Diane Kenyon of Sulphur Well; also three brothers, three sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless friends from all over the world. He was one of the hardest workers and in him, many found a heart of gold.



SERVICES

SMITHS GROVE— Wanda Mae Smith Jackson, 67, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ernest Odell Gearlds, 79, , passed away on the morning of April 8, 2009. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Legacy Funeral Center at Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Funeral services will be at the Legacy Funeral Center on Saturday, at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.



GLASGOW — Katherine Louise Simmons, 57, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation continues at the funeral home.
