LEITCHFIELD — Ricky Stephen Karnes, 54, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was born May 25, 1954, in Glasgow. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at The Church of God of Prophecy, Leitchfield, where he attended. He is survived by his parents, James “Jimmy” Karnes and Gladys Young; stepmom, Francis Karnes; three children: Richard Karnes, Robert Karnes and Kelsey Karnes; six grandchildren; two brothers: Donald “Danny” Karnes (Betty), Kenneth “Cornbread” Karnes (Sharon); one sister: Theresa Hunt; several nieces and nephews; and fiancee, Marsha Langdon. Samuel Hollis Norris GLASGOW — Samuel Hollis Norris, 76, son of Hollis F. and Olga L. Norris, died peacefully at his home in Glasgow on Thursday, April 9, 2009, after a brief illness. He is survived by Anna, his beloved wife of 48 years; his six children: Steven Norris (Joy), Nan Dryden (Tad), Jan Clarke (John), Timothy Norris (Michelle), Mary Norris Polson, Amy Cassady (Craig); his 17 grandchildren: Samantha, Lane, Anna, Sara, Emma, Owen, Annie, Rachel, Dillon, Katherine, Christopher, Andrew, Matthew, Kate, Parker, Connor, and Mia; his mother, Olga Lane Norris; his sister: Elizabeth Metts (Julian); and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Maxwell “Max” Polson. Sam was born in Glasgow on June 1, 1932, and grew up on the family farm where he would later settle. He was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950, received a B.A. in geology and chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 1954, and served in the US Army 1954-56 in Austria and Germany. He attended the International Training Center for Aerial Survey at Delft, Netherlands, in 1956 and completed two years of graduate courses at UK where he courted and married Anna in 1960. He served on the local draft board 1970-75, director of Citizens Bank and Trust Co. from 1965-95, and on Glasgow City Council for approximately 40 years. He was a member of the American Association of Professional Geologists and the American Institute of Professional Geologists. He was senior oil and gas inspector for the Ky. Department of Mines and Minerals for 18 years and established Norris Well Services, Inc. in 1980. He retired from Norris Well Services after a heart attack in 1991 and spent his retirement taking his wife out to dinner, overseeing his Angus cattle, and loving his children, grandchildren, many friends and large family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Glasgow, Ky.; Holy Apostle Orthodox Mission, 2052 Russellville Road, Bowling Green, Ky.; the Boy Scouts; or a charity of your choice in remembrance of Sam. www.crowfuneralhome.com
