FRIDAY UPDATE: Only mail-in absentees to be recounted

A recount in the Democratic primary race for Barren County judge-executive at 1 p.m. Tuesday will include only mail-in absentee ballots that were previously counted, according to an order Friday from Barren Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton.

The question of whether any disqualified mail-in absentees should be allowed is to be addressed separately.

The recount was requested by candidate Chris Steward, who finished third to unofficial winner Micheal Hale in the May 20 primary. Steward is 17 votes behind Hale, while Bud Tarry finished three votes behind Hale.

A recanvass in the race last week produced no changes in the election night result.
