The African American community of Glasgow, and the city as a whole, is not ready to settle any time soon.

Monday afternoon, First Baptist Church of Glasgow led the community in an annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. It was a day of thanking God for how far civil and human rights have come, and challenging oneself to continue striving for equality and success.

King brought the nation far, but it is up to the current and future generations to continue that climb upward, according to those who spoke during Monday’s program.

The annual celebration began at the steps of Barren County Courthouse with song, scripture and prayer. That group marched down Broadway to First Baptist on South Lewis Street, in commemoration of the marches King led in the 1960s.
