GLASGOW — Fiscal matters and the high school construction progress were the major topics of discussion at the Glasgow Independent Schools Board of Education’s regular session Monday.

According to Alliance Corp. Project Manager Jeff Wells, about 99 percent of the high school’s interior is done while about 70 percent of the exterior is complete. He said production problems with the FRP (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) vendor, based in Alabama, has delayed the construction process. The FRP vendor provides the white capping between the brick and roof top and the columns located near the cafeteria and the front of the building.

Superintendent Sean Howard said he’s been pleased with the Alliance Corp.’s work.

“We’re winding down,” he said. “They’ve been great with their time table. We’ve had a lot of cooperative weather and very skilled tradesmen.”

Construction is expected to be completed in about two months.

Board Chairperson Elaine Richardson also announced the date for the high school open house as 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Glasgow High School auditorium.

In other news, the 2013-2014 draft budget was approved. At this time, without a better idea of the funding they’ll receive, the numbers are close to the 2012-2013 budget. With recent budget cuts, the board members agreed to take a Saturday session to look over expenses for cost saving measures. The recent announcement of the Kentucky School Boards Insurance Trust’s $50-$60 million deficit may also impact the school’s 2013-2014 budget.
