Tourist commission is looking for a new sign

Glasgow Daily Times

An effort is under way to replace a sign along Interstate 65 at mile marker 52 that tells motorists what attractions can be accessed at the next exit.

At present, the sign lists Mammoth Cave National Park and Guntown Mountain, but the sign is faded and not very appealing to motorists who may be looking for something to do when traveling through southcentral Kentucky.

At one time, the state helped fund the replacement of the signs, but now communities are left to do them on their own. Replacing such signs can be expensive.

“Replacement cost for the signs are $6,500 to $7,000, depending on the price of the steel at the time of the replacement,” said Sharon Tabor, executive director of the Cave City Convention Center. “New signs cost about $17,000.”
