After Tuesday’s meeting of the Glasgow City Council’s finance committee, it appears unlikely that city employees will be receiving a proposed one-time, $500 payment.
At the council’s July 22 meeting, Councilman Wendell Honeycutt proposed that full-time employees who had been with the city since the start of the prior fiscal year receive a bonus of $1,000 in November. He said employees had worked especially hard this past year to do more with less because of budget trimming, so they deserved some sort of recognition of that. The city had ended the 2012-13 fiscal year better off than expected, so he thought it was appropriate that some of those funds go back to the employees.
