3:34 p.m. AFTERNOON UPDATE: Glasgow Fire Department called to landfill fire

GLASGOW — Glasgow Fire Department responded around 10 a.m. Monday to the Glasgow landfill for a reported fire. En route, GFD called for assistance from the county fire departments for brush trucks. Upon arrival, firefighters found quite a bit of fire in a garbage heap, according to a GFD press release. They applied water and foam to suppress the fire. Additional county tanker trucks were requested to help supply needed water for fire suppression.

The cause of the fire has not been determined since no garbage had been dumped at that site for some time. Spontaneous combustion has not been ruled out. Firefighters were on the scene about three hours. There were no injuries reported. Landfill employees, East Barren, Haywood Fire and South Barren Fire departments assisted at the scene.
