AFTERNOON UPDATE: Two arrested in Metcalfe shooting


Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Metcalfe County on Tuesday morning.

Michael Wayne Benett, 37, and Edward Terry Brooks, 38, both of Edmonton, have been arrested and charged with first-degree assault, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police Post 15.

Bennett was arrested at 2 p.m. at his residence at 11693 Edmonton Road. Brooks was arrested at 5:05 p.m. at his residence at 5051 Greensburg Road. Both were lodged in the Barren County Detention Center, according to state police.

Jonathan W. Greer, 32, address unknown, was the man shot. He remains in serious, but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.



The name of the person injured in a Metcalfe County shooting has been released.

Jonathan W. Greer, 32, address unknown, called Glasgow dispatch at 6:53 Tuesday morning and said that he had been shot and was on Black Dot Road, near the Barren-Metcalfe county line, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police Post 15.

Barren County Sheriff's Office and Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services and Hiseville Volunteer Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and Greer was found. He was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, then flown to University of Louisville Hospital where he remains in "serious but stable" condition as of 11:43 a.m., according to the release.

Since the incident was in Metcalfe County, state police were notified and is in charge of the ongoing investigation.

It was determined that the incident occurred in Metcalfe County and Kentucky State Police were notified. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

A person was injured in a shooting this morning in western Metcalfe County, according to Kentucky State Police Post 15 spokesman Trooper Billy Gregory.

The identify of the injured person has not been released. The person was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment, Gregory said.

Gregory said KSP is following up on “strong” leads but would not say if there are suspects.

“We are still knee deep in the investigation,” he said.

The shooting occurred about 7:30 a.m. in a rural area near the Barren-Metcalfe county line.
