Senate Republicans unveil redistricting map

Givens would lose Edmonson County, pick up Monroe County

FRANKFORT — State Senate Republicans on Thursday released a new Senate district map that Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, said is constitutionally defensible and fair, and driven by mathematical and legal requirements, not partisan political motive.

The map pairs no incumbent in another’s district and creates no open seats or creates a newly numbered district that would place an incumbent senator outside his or her election cycle.

The leader of the minority Democratic caucus commended Stivers and Republicans for drawing a fair map.

“To draw a map with no open seats that doesn’t combine incumbents, I think, is very fair,” said R.J. Palmer, D-Winchester.
