5:40 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Assault arrest made in relation to man whose body was found

TOMPKINSVILLE — 5:40 p.m.:

At approximately 3 p.m. CST Thursday, KSP Post 15 Columbia arrested Joseph Tooley, 32, of Tompkinsville. Tooley was arrested and charged with assault, fourth degree, in reference to an incident involving Mark Proffitt that occurred July 26. Tooley was lodged in the Monroe County jail.  Pending autopsy results, additional charges may follow, according to a KSP press release.  The case remains under investigation.

 

2:30 p.m. update/correction from KSP

At approximately 10:55 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 15 received a call from Tompkinsville Police Department in reference to a body had been found near the intersection of M.O. Lane and Richards Drive in the city limits of Tompkinsville, according to a KSP press release.

Upon arrival, KSP detectives found the body of a white male in an overgrown field. The male subject was identified as Mark A. Proffitt of Tompkinsville who had been reported as missing on Saturday.  Proffitt was pronounced deceased by the Monroe County coroner.  The cause of death is to be determined.  An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  Detective Jamie Richard is investigating the death.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 or by calling 911.

 

 

2:16 p.m.:

At approximately 10:55 a.m., the Kentucky State Police, Post 15, received a call from the Tompkinsville Police Department reference a body had been found on Carter Court in the city limits of Tompkinsville. 

Upon arrival to Carter Court, KSP detectives found the body of a white male in an overgrown field.  The male subject was identified as Mark A. Proffitt of Tompkinsville who had been reported as missing, according to a state police press release. 

Proffitt was pronounced deceased by the Monroe County Coroner.  The cause of death is to be deteremined.  An autopsy is scheduled to be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office.  Det. Jamie Richard is investigating the death. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police at (800) 222-5555 or by calling 911, the press release stated.
