Robert Granvil Edwards
SULPHUR WELL – Mr. Robert Granvil Edwards, of Sulphur Well, son of the late Carlie and Elvyen Matney Edwards was born June 4, 1926, in Adair County, and departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia, at the age of 87.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired farmer. He was united in marriage on Aug. 16, 1946, to his wife of 67 years, Lorene Beard Edwards, who survives.
He is also survived by three sons and one daughter, Timmie (wife Bonnie) Edwards, Carl (wife Lee Ann) Edwards, Terry (wife Jennifer) Edwards and Patricia (husband Barry) Froedge, all of Edmonton; two brothers and one sister, Jim Edwards, of Edmonton, Robert Earl Edwards, of Louisville, and Evon Stolzes, of California; six grandchildren: Timothy, Amanda, Tabatha, Brittany, Candie and Courtney; 10 great-grandchildren: Trevor, Kassidy, Mason, Melanie, Miranda, Chase, Easton, Hannah, Austin and Lydia. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, Weldon, Arlis, Jake and Larry Edwards, Dorothy Curry, Gracie Bishop and Sybil Bush, and one granddaughter, Laura White.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Edwards Home Place Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Doris Ann Lynn Shockley
FOUNTAIN RUN – Doris Ann Lynn Shockley, 53, of Fountain Run, died Friday Oct. 25, 2013, in Tompkinsville.
She is survived by her husband, Ricky Shockley, of Fountain Run; her father, James Lynn, of Tompkinsville; and her mother, Bonnie McCormick, of Lebanon, Tenn.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Fountain Run Funeral Home, with burial in Akersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 until 8 p.m. and Sunday after 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Marie S. Simpson
GLASGOW – Marie S. Simpson, 98, Glasgow, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Metcalfe Health Care Center.
A native of Russell Springs, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland and Rena Atchley Sullivan. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons: David Simpson, Bobby Simpson and Steve Simpson and his wife Betty Lou, all of Glasgow; three grandchildren: Eddie Simpson, Nicole Simpson and Straddie Simpson; four great-grandchildren: Clayton and Jessie Simpson, Madison and Hunter Faulkner; and two sisters: Constance Smith and Gloria Bain Loy Robertson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua Alley (J.A.) Simpson; one grandson, Bogard Simpson; six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mary Frances Smith
GLASGOW – Mary Frances Smith, 92, of Glasgow, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Barren County Health Care Center.
The Barren County native was the daughter of the late Charlie and Elva Huffman Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, David B. Smith Jr., and by her sister, Ruth Nespajohn.
She is survived by her son, Charles David (Carole) Smith, of Glasgow; her daughter, Bonnie Williams (Bill), of Gallatin, Tenn.; six loving grandchildren, Marc Carter, Phillip (Leslie) Carter, Buffy Carter, Brent (Julie) Smith, Jenny (Chad) Groce and Lori (Nick) Poynter; and by 13 adoring great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a devoted Christian lady with a loving and gentle spirit.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday morning until time for the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one’s church or the American Cancer Society.
GLASGOW – Nina Wyatt, 77, of Glasgow, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. Her arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
MUNFORDVILLE – Philip Baise, “Big Phillip,” 83, of Munfordville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with military honors provided by DAV Chapter of Glasgow. Burial will be in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow. TOMPKINSVILLE – Jesse James Humes, 67, of Tompkinsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Monroe County Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Yokley Trible Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.
