WWII veteran visits memorial in Washington

Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — Robert Sharp, 89, said when he stepped off the plane after his flight to the World War II Memorial on Sept. 21, about 3,000 people greeted him and 28 other veterans from Kentucky. Many people shook his hand.

He said he had never seen so many American flags.

It took more than an hour to get through the crowd at Louisville’s airport, he said.

“It was one person after another,” Sharp said, smiling. “I enjoyed that as much or more than the trip itself. It is great that people still want to remember [WWII].”
