1:15 AFTERNOON UPDATE: KSP investigating multiple bomb threats in Monroe County

TOMPKINSVILLE — 1:15 p.m.: Tompkinsville Elementary has been cleared, as well as Sonic restaurant in Tompkinsville, of any threat. Students were being allowed back into the school.

 

12:25 p.m.: A bomb threat came into the office of the Monroe County County Attorney at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday morning. At approximately the same time, a threat was also called into Tompkinsville Elementary.

The elementary was evacuated, along with Monroe County's high school and middle school, the Tompksinville McDonald’s and Walmart.

The elementary school students have been moved to a safe location, according the KSP post 3 information officer Jonathan Biven, who was fielding questions on the courthouse lawn Thursday morning.

Customers have returned to McDonald’s and Walmart, but the investigation continues. KSP K-9 and special operations units have been called to assist.

 

11:05 a.m.: The Kentucky State Police has released a statement about the bomb threats reported in Monroe County:

At approximately 8:20 a.m. this morning, KSP Post 15 in Columbia received a call from Monroe County dispatch that a bomb threat had been called in to the Tompkinsville Elementary School and the Monroe County Attorney's office. The caller advised that the bombs were set to detonate in 15 minutes from the time of the call.

No detonation has occurred.  Additional bomb threats were called in to Sonic and McDonald's Restaurants and to the local Walmart in Tompkinsville. All businesses have been evacuated and school has been cancelled for the day.

The public should recognize that there may be significant delays in regards to local traffic and are asked to avoid, if possible, the potential threat areas.

Troopers and Detectives from Post 15 along with KSP K-9 Units are investigating.

 

10:40 a.m.: The Kentucky State Police is investigating reports of multiple bomb threats in Monroe County. The state police has deployed its special operations and K9 unit to the scene. More details will be available later.
