Kindred offered early retirement

GLASGOW — Bill Kindred, CEO of T.J. Samson Community Hospital, confirmed Tuesday afternoon that he has been offered the same early retirement package as several other hospital employees.

When asked if he will be accepting the retirement offer, Kindred said a press release will be issued Wednesday morning to explain his decision.

“There are about 40 employees at the hospital who are eligible for that and I just happen to be one,” he said.

Kindred was unsure how many employees will take early retirement.

“We won’t know for a while. I think the deadline is somewhere around the 20th of December,” he said.

Kindred estimated maybe 20 employees have expressed interest in the program.

If he does take the early retirement package, Kindred said his deal will be the same as for other hospital employees.

“It’s exactly the same – the same parameters as everybody else,” he said.

To qualify for early retirement, employees must be at least 60 years old and have 15 years or more of service with the hospital. No other employees who are younger or have fewer years of service have been offered separation packages, according to Kindred.

Kindred said he had not considered retirement until this offer was made. However, he acknowledged there is a succession plan in place.

“Yes, we’ve had one since back when Mr. [Dwayne] Moss passed away seven years ago,” he said.

The process will occur quickly if Kindred decides to accept the package.

“If I do step down, the program calls for retirement to take place the first of January,” Kindred said.
