To celebrate National Bike to Work Day, a few local cycling enthusiasts are hoping to encourage themselves and others to make their morning commute on bicycle, rather than by car.
Billy Ray, a member of Bicycles of the Barrens, is organizing a group of community members to meet at George J’s on the square Friday at 7 a.m. for National Bike to Work Day, to enjoy breakfast and conversation about alternative transportation, and then bicycle to work from there. Ray has tried to organize a community event centered around Bike to Work Day for the last several years, he said, but he couldn’t quite pulled anything together. This year, he created an event on Facebook through the Bicycles of the Barrens group, and in just a couple hours he said he had about five people RSVP that they will be joining the group breakfast and bike ride. Everyone in the community is invited to come out.
