Robert Lawson had a little trouble notifying Richard Young that The Kentucky HeadHunters were going to be inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.
“I tried to call him,” said Lawson, executive director of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in Renfro Valley. “The guys had been on the road doing several dates in a row. I kept calling, but I couldn’t leave a message, so I just kept calling.”
After several attempts of trying to telephone Young in March 2012, Lawson decided to stop by Young’s house in Metcalfe County while on his way to Nashville to break the news to Exile that they, too, had been chosen as hall of fame inductees.
“I just pulled into the driveway and knocked on the door,” Lawson said.
Young came to the door and was on the phone.
“It was kind of funny,” Lawson said. “I’ll never forget the look when he opened the door and I was standing there.”
Young, rhythm guitarist for the band, called the moment surreal.
