Eaton’s father injured by accidental gun discharge

BOWLING GREEN — Less than 24 hours before his federal trial began, Sheriff Chris Eaton found out his father, Larry Eaton, accidentally shot himself. While putting guns away in his gun safe, Chris Eaton said his father dropped a .22 pistol and shot himself up through his leg, with the bullet going through his body multiple times. Larry Eaton was flown to Louisville for surgery Sunday night.

As of Monday morning, Larry Eaton was on a ventilator, but stable. Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr., allowed Chris Eaton’s wife to keep a cell phone with her in the courtroom to stay up-to-date on Larry Eaton’s status. It was a significant amount of added stress on an already stressful time, Chris Eaton said, but since his father’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, he does not expect it to have an impact on the trial proceedings.
