Secretary pay discussed at board meeting

EDMONTON — Secretary work hours, change orders for the new primary center and an update on the adoption of MyClyns Pro as the school district’s line of antibacterial cleansers were the main topics of discussion at the Metcalfe County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

Prior to the meeting, secretaries at three elementary schools, the middle school and high school were scheduled for and only compensated for seven hours of work. The principals said the secretaries work more than seven hours on a daily basis and seldom take lunches.

At the middle school, Principal Allen Trotter said their school secretary maintains a hectic work schedule. He said she often takes an hour to eat her lunch at her desk in between phone calls.

“We couldn’t operate if our secretary only worked seven hours a day,” said Karen Nunn, Edmonton Elementary principal.
