Eaton motion for acquittal denied

Will face sentencing Aug. 1

GLASGOW — Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton will continue to prepare for his Aug. 1 sentencing on two charges of witness tampering, after his motion for a judgment of acquittal was denied in U.S. District Court.

Eaton filed a motion for judgment of acquittal on May 23, two weeks after his federal trial ended in Bowling Green. Eaton was indicted in 2012 on eight counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, making false statements to federal investigators, witness tampering, falsification of documents and destruction of a record, document or tangible object, and went to trial the end of May 2013. The charges stemmed from an arrest incident on Feb. 24, 2010, in which Eaton and other officers were accused of using excessive force. At the end of his nine-day trial, Eaton was found not guilty of all charges but the witness tampering.
