Governor visits new nursing facility

Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — Getting a new and, by all accounts, much improved version of the Glasgow State Nursing Facility was neither an easy nor fast process.

With the continued efforts of a host of local and state leaders, though, a building nearly ready for residents and staff members to occupy was welcomed by a crowd of approximately 200, including Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, on Wednesday.

“It’s a day to celebrate, really, the human spirit,” said Dr. Phillip Bale, the physician who has been medical director at the decades-old version for 34 years and has been a strong advocate of getting it upgraded.

“To me, it speaks to the better angels in all of us,” he said. “It demonstrates that as a society, we are willing to step up and treat well the most vulnerable among us.”
