Glasgow City Council votes for new Glasgow Police Department home

GLASGOW — After years of looking at options and finding none suitable for one reason or another, including price tag, the Glasgow Police Department may be on the way to having a new home, and it wouldn’t have to move far.

After a closed session Monday at the end of its regular meeting, Glasgow City Council voted unanimously – except one member who abstained – on the first reading of an ordinance to authorize Mayor Rhonda Riherd Trautman to lease the property at 100 S. Broadway St., where Venture Contracting Inc. is now, with the option to purchase it.

Council member Harold Armstrong abstained because he had a prior business relationship with VCI, the mayor said after the meeting.

“We’re looking at it and evaluating it for use as a new location for our police department,” Trautman said, adding that councils through the years have discussed various options that never came to fruition.

GPD Chief Guy Turcotte called the possibility of this new home for the department “a much-needed asset.”

“We outgrew that place a long time ago,” he said of the current location at 201 S. Broadway St.
