GLASGOW —

When Trevent Hayes and his uncle bought Watts Funeral Home in 2011, they were determined to build upon the history of the oldest African American-owned business in Barren County. Almost two years later, Watts & Percell Funeral Home has had almost a complete makeover and Hayes is slowly building his reputation as a local business owner.

Watts Funeral Home was founded in 1950 by Rudolph Watts, and it has been in its current location on South Lewis Street since the late 1960s. Hayes’ uncle, Danny Percell, Sr., spent part of his high school years working for Watts. Thirty years ago, Percell opened his own funeral home in Elizabethtown, Percell and Sons Funeral Home, Inc.
