Building A Sweet Foundation

GLASGOW — Glasgow High School math teacher and former agricultural engineer Lora Garrett admires a gingerbread house made by Dalton Shirley, 10. Garrett was the featured speaker Thursday at a Discover Tech workshop focusing on using engineering techniques to design gingerbread houses at Mary Wood Weldon Public Library.

Martin Cassman, 3, eats excess candy pieces after making a gingerbread house with his siblings Thursday during Mary Wood Weldon Public Library's Discover Tech holiday workshop. Children listened Garrett discuss the structure of a building and the importance of a strong foundation, and then they were able to make their own gingerbread houses during the workshop, part of the library's Discover Tech exhibit.
