GLASGOW — Cyclists gather for a pre-ride speech before the third annual Pedal for the Park fundraiser May 10. The event is one of two main events the Friends of Mammoth Cave nonprofit group hosts each year said the group’s executive director, Gayle Geisecke. The other event is a Walk in the Park held in the fall at Mammoth Cave National Park. All proceeds for these two functions go toward park programs, specifically providing grants for schools to come visit Mammoth Cave. The bicycle ride persevered through the rainy Saturday, with 46 riders registered to participate in three different routes: a 12-mile, around the Cave City area, 45 miles around the Cave City area and MCNP, and a 77-mile route around Cave City, through the national park, across the Mammoth Cave ferry, through Hart County and back to Cave City. Friends of Mammoth Cave has about 150 members, Geisecke said. “It takes time to grow and we are eager for participation and membership growth,” she said.
