AFTERNOON UPDATE: T.J. Samson reducing staff, making salary cuts

GLASGOW —

T.J. Samson Community Hospital will cut its staff by as many as 49 employees and reduce salaries for many employees — including senior management — in response to financial challenges facing the organization.

Interim CEO Henry Royse announced the “tough decisions” during a news conference Wednesday afternoon at the T.J. Health Pavilion in Glasgow.

The hospital's workforce is being reduced by as many as 49 people from multiple departments, he said, and other personnel will fill any gaps in their duties.

In addition, effective immediately, senior management will see a 10 percent reduction in salary, and salaried physicians have been asked to take the same percentage reduction. Employees currently making more than $10 per hour will see reductions ranging from 2 percent to 6 percent, Royse said.

All of the salary cuts continue through Sept. 30.

Royse cited the “costly roll out of an inadequate financial software program” that has resulted in tens of millions of dollars in billing and other losses, as well as the effect of implementing the Affordable Care Act.
