Tuesday event will celebrate Glasgow, Barren County, Caverna children

GLASGOW — Children’s Day — a musical event that will honor and celebrate area children and draw attention to their basic needs — will take place Tuesday night at the Plaza Theatre.

Performing during the event will be children and teenagers of all ages from Glasgow, Barren County and Caverna schools.

“I think everybody now knows because of the bad economy time about 25 percent of our children at one time or another go hungry and many don’t have basic needs like shoes, underwear and different clothing,” said Dr. Bharat Mody, a Glasgow surgeon and philanthropist, who is credited with coming up with the idea for Children’s Day.

Tuesday was chosen as the date to honor and celebrate area children because it coincides with the International Day for Children, he said.

Proceeds generated from Tuesday night’s concert will be used to establish a Children’s Day Fund. Money from the fund will then be used to help serve the basic needs of area children, Mody said.
