Historic restaurant finds new owners

GLASGOW — Retired Glasgow Police Officer Joey Crews describes the restaurant he took official ownership of last week, the Country Express, as “the best kept secret in Barren County.”

Crews said he’s always enjoyed cooking and thought of owning his own restaurant one day but the timing never seemed quite right.

Crews, who worked for the Glasgow Police Department for 24 years, often ate lunch around town to maintain a visible presence in the community. Over the years and several lunchtimes, he felt like he was a Barren County cuisine connoisseur.

After retiring from the Glasgow Police Department, Crews took a part-time job with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office. He saw that the Country Express Restaurant, located off of North Jackson Highway, was for sale. It was one of the few places in his lunchtime visits as a police officer that he had not yet visited.
