The Barren County Fiscal Court Jail Committee got a good report from jail employees Tuesday afternoon during a regular meeting.
Committee members Billy Houchens, John Benningfield and Gary Gillon met with Jailer Matt Mutter and jail employees Tracy Bellamy and Lloyd Bean Tuesday afternoon after the magistrates had taken recent tours of the jail facility. The Barren County Detention Center is still exceptionally clean to be a two-year old building, Houchens said.
One issue being debated among jail employees is the desire to earn nonhazardous or hazardous pay, Mutter told the committee. Hazardous pay gives employees a larger retirement fund, but takes more money out of their paychecks. For some of the new, young employees, Mutter said they would rather be nonhazardous employees in order to get more money in their paychecks. They’re not thinking about retirement 25 years down the road.
