12:40 AFTERNOON UPDATE: GPD's Graves pleads not guilty to assault charge

GLASGOW —

Glasgow Police Department Lt. Col. David Graves entered a plea of not guilty Wednesday in Barren District Court on a charge of assault, fourth degree (domestic violence), minor injury.

Graves was arrested and charged just after midnight Feb. 19 by Kentucky State Police Sgt. Jermaine Savage, according to a KSP citation in Graves’ court records.

He was originally scheduled for arraignment March 4, but it was postponed when Barren District Judge John Alexander recused himself from the case. Senior Judge William P. Ryan Jr. of Jefferson County has been appointed as the special judge in the case and presided over Wednesday's proceedings.

A pretrial court date of May 29 is the next step in the case.
