State police continue search for Thomas Upton day after initial search began

GLASGOW — Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green is requesting public assistance in locating a Barren County man, according to a KSP press release.

KSP is searching for Thomas Upton, 33, of Glasgow. He is listed as a 6-foot, 1-inch tall white male weighing 190 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

Upton is a suspect in as many as eight auto thefts throughout Barren, Hart, LaRue and Warren counties, and he is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous, according to the KSP statement.

Anyone with any information regarding Upton's whereabouts is asked not to approach him and to contact the Kentucky State Police at 800-222-5555 or your local police agency.

KSP Post 3 is asking citizens not to leave their vehicles running while unattended. This includes warming the vehicle in the driveways in the morning or while inside service stations. KSP is also reminding drivers to not leave keys in your vehicle, as many of these thefts had occurred due to the owners' leaving their keys in their car.

Jonathan Biven, public information officer for KSP Post 3, said the vehicles Upton is suspected to have stolen include two that belong to Barren County government that the Barren County Sheriff's Office issued a press release about Tuesday. He said KSP has been working jointly with the BCSO and the Warren County sheriff's office.

The county vehicles had been inside the county road barn when they were taken sometime over this past weekend, according to a press release from the BCSO.

Someone entered the facility through a rear window and took a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 with utility bed license number KJ8297 and a 2002 white Chevrolet 4x4 Silverado with license number KK5406. Also taken with the 3500 were various tools, an air compressor and a water tank, which were in the utility bed, according to the BCSO statement.
