Debra Devine read a new book, “There’s a Fly Guy in my Soup,” with her 6-year-old son Kaden at the Red Cross Elementary Family Literacy Night on Monday.
The biannual event featured a book fair and several literacy themed games for families to enjoy together. Red Cross Elementary Librarian Amy Shipley said the book fair is an important fundraiser for the school’s library, but more importantly Family Literacy Night “promotes reading with families.”
For Devine, the event meant encouraging her son’s love of reading.
“We read together every night,” she said. “We go to the library often, and it’s almost embarrassing because we always leave with a huge stack of books.”
