Former students of the Ralph Bunche High School will be honored Friday night during the Community Fellowship Banquet at the Liberty District-Ralph Bunche Community Center.
The event gets under way at 7 p.m. and will include recognition of the Ralph Bunche High School Band, as well as a plaque presentation honoring the school’s sports hall of fame inductees.
Jim McDaniels, a Western Kentucky University All-American basketball player who played with the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association, will be making the presentation.
The plaque will then be placed on display in the school’s museum, which is being developed on the second floor of the community center.
Charles Hunter, event organizer and a member of the Ralph Bunche Community Center Foundation Committee, said work to create the museum has begun, but is temporarily on hold.
“We initially thought we would have it done for this year, but we ran into a problem with one of the individuals who is going to be doing the remodeling of the rooms [on the second floor],” he said, adding the person doing the work has fallen ill. “That is something that we will be looking forward to finishing in the future.”
The idea to develop a museum came about when officials were looking for a way to preserve the history of the school.
