Monroe County is lucky to still have its own USDA Service Center, according to William Harlan and Bobby Wilson, who are representatives from the county soil and water conservation district, who spoke to the Monroe Fiscal Court Thursday morning, expressing their gratitude for the county’s support in the past year.
The county soil and water conservation district office operates out of the Monroe County USDA Service Center along with the federal Natural Resource Conservation Service agency.
Some USDA service centers across the state have merged, representing more than one county. The USDA service centers in Barren and Metcalfe counties were merged in 2007 and now operate out of one office which is on YMCA in Glasgow. Each county has maintained its own local soil and water conservation district office.
