Caverna School Board votes to raise property tax rate

CAVE CITY —

The Caverna Independent Board of Education voted to raise real estate and tangible property to the four percent tax rate at a special called meeting on Thursday night.

The decision was made in a three to two majority vote. Sheldon Ballou, Marla Wilson and Bill Payton voted in favor of raising the property taxes to the four percent tax rate and JT Neeley and Wayne Hatcher voted against the decision. The decision will result in real estate taxes increasing from 66.7 cents from last school year to 69.3 cents for the 2013-14 school year.
