Special election for Austin winery set

GLASGOW — A small number of voters will get to decided in January whether or not wine should be sold in their community.

A special local option election has been set for Jan. 29 for the 666 eligible voters as of Nov. 6 in the Thomerson Park or Dry Fork B-103 precinct.

Only one question will appear on the ballot for voters to consider. “Are you in favor of the sale of wine at the proposed Mattingly Farms Winery?”

Jared Mattingly and his wife, Ashton, are pursuing the sale of wine by the bottle at Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese located along Thomerson Park Road in the Austin community of southern Barren County.

“We are mainly just trying to get a lot more customer flow with our cheese that’s why we are adding the wine,” said Jared Mattingly, who is the son of Ken and Beverly Mattingly of Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese.

Mattingly would like to start out selling wine made by other wineries and eventually solicit a winery to make wine to be sold at the family’s cheese shop.
