Bale appointed as WKU regent

GLASGOW — Local physician Dr. Phillip Bale was recently appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to Western Kentucky University’s Board of Regents.

Bale will replace Rob Wilkey who recently resigned before the official end of his term on June 30, 2015.
Bale’s wife, Kristen Bale is a former WKU regent. They have four children, two of which attained degrees from WKU. His mother, the late Joy Bale Boone served on the Council for Public Higher Education in the ’60s. The council was Kentucky’s former planning board for colleges and universities statewide. She also worked to bring WKU’s Robert Penn Warren Center to fruition.
“WKU is close to my family,” he said. “Education has always been central to my life.”
Bale has had many professional accomplishments. He founded Glasgow Primary Care in 1979, the Glasgow-Barren County Family Practice Residency Program in 1966 and the Kentucky Center for Prevention of Heart Attack, Stroke and Diabetes in 2007. He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He served the Glasgow Independent Board of Education for 12 years, eight of which he acted as board chairman. He has also served on the Foundation for Healthy Kentucky Board.
Bale said he was excited about the opportunity and the challenge to serve WKU. He said his main focus will be on academics.
“I want to continue to build on the good things happening at WKU,” he said.
