Wreck leads to murder charge

Glasgow Daily Times

A Barren County man was indicted by a Monroe County grand jury earlier this week on a charge of murder by use of a motor vehicle.

James T. Elmore, 45, is accused of being responsible for the death of Angela Ervin, 35, of Edmonton, who died in a wreck around 9:25 p.m. on June 11, 2011.

The indictment from earlier this week is in addition to three other indictments that have been issued against him.

Elmore was initially indicted in March 2012 for second-degree manslaughter, driving on suspended operator’s license and operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of or above 0.08 or while under the influence of alcohol or other substance, first offense.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, Elmore was the driver of a 2001 GMC truck that wrecked around 9:25 p.m. on June 11, 2011, on Ky. 63, about seven miles north of Tompkinsville. Ervin was a passenger in the front seat of the truck.

Elmore was traveling north on Ky. 63 when he lost control causing the truck to spin to the left crossing the southbound lane, leaving the roadway and striking a tree with the front left side of the truck, the report stated.

The truck then rotated 180 degrees and struck two more trees with the passenger side of the vehicle, and then rotated another 180 degrees before coming to final rest in the southbound lane facing north, the report stated.
