Gas-powered electricity on its way

GLASGOW — With the funding the city needs to move ahead with its part of a methane-to-electricity project secured this summer, the nuts and bolts of the planning process is getting under way.

The agreement is being finalized between the city and Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. for a financial partnership. The city’s next major task is the design done for the system that will collect the gas that is one of the natural byproducts of decaying trash at the Glasgow Regional Landfill so excess moisture and other impurities can be filtered away, and it can be measured and delivered to the power generation plant.
