Metcalfe magistrates vote for property tax rate decrease

Glasgow Daily Times

Real property tax rates will decrease by one-tenth of a cent this year, due to action taken by Metcalfe County magistrates Tuesday morning.

Magistrates voted to take the compensating tax rate, which is 8.6 cents per $100 assessed value. The new tax rate is one-tenth of a cent less than the 2012 real property tax rate of 8.7 cents.

After voting to set the tax rate, Magistrate Greg White explained why he voted in favor of the compensating rate.

“It was what was presented to us and it was the compensating rate, all of them were as close this time as they could possibly need to be for what revenue we need to come to the county to help make it operate,” he said.
